Reflections on the First Visit

It’s been almost 24 hours now since we went to the doctor. I will tell you that the visit to the doctor’s office yesterday was something that I have never felt in my entire life. When the sonographer flipped on the screen and we could actually SEE a little head and arms and we could SEE a little heart beating — that was an incredible feeling and I have to admit that I got a little teary eyed seeing him/her. When the sonographer flipped the switch and allowed us to hear the heartbeat — that did it for me. I was sold on this whole fatherhood thing. I have no idea how I’m going to feel when the baby is actually born but if this simple doctor visit is any indication it will be a very joyful occasion.

I know that my precious bride, the baby and I have a long way to go, but I know that Jaime is as strong and tough as they come and I know that she’ll be a great mother.

I remember when I was a kid my mother would always talk about how babies were miracles and I just thought she was a little overemotional about kids. Well, I think what I saw and heard yesterday in that room was indeed a miracle.

For all of mankind’s arrogance and science, he is still incapable of duplicating what we saw yesterday. Yeah, there is in-vitro fertilization, cloning, etc. but that’s all just playing around with what’s already there. We can’t create life, only modify it and as evidenced by the Virginia Tech shootings yesterday, destroy it.

First Doctor Visit

April 16, 2007 on 6:26 pm | In First Trimester | 3 Comments

Today we had our first visit to the Doctor. We got there REALLY early, you know you don’t want to be late :-) Well, it paid off because they took us instantly. We went in and finished the appointment before our schedule appointment even passed. (Well only 5 minutes or so).

This was mostly an informational meeting with the Sonographer and a nurse practitioner. They did an ultrasound and of course heard the heart beat for the first time. The Sonographer was quite good and rather amusing. What a great job she has sharing happy moments with people. Our little baby is about 2.78 centimeters today. How people can say that a being that has a heart beat at 2.78 centimeters is not a living being- is ridiculous.

Our expected due date is November 19th- we are starting week 10.

Here are some photos of Baby Painter!
