80 Hour Report
Ok, so it's been a while, huh? Well, it's been a busy time for us. Our little son Tyler was born November 16th and he's kept us quite busy.
I have been able to get some time on the plane though (80 hours). Anyway, last night I finished getting most of the fairings taken care of. Yes, I've been flying for 80 hours without them and I finally decided that I needed more speed. I've made several flights with just the wheelpants and I have to say that the airplane flies differently. I'm going to have to learn how to grease the landings again.
And yes, I'm going to pre-empt the 10 e-mails I'm going to get regarding the need to prime my fiberglass. I know all about it. It's getting done this weekend.
I had mentioned in a previous update that I got a Garmin 496, but I hadn't taken any pictures of my installation yet. This is probably temporary and I may end up using a flush mount Airgizmos dock. The 496 is worth every penny and is a fantastic GPS, even without the weather information. My GX-50 is now relegated to backup status.
As you probably saw on the main page of this site, I've added a map with airports I've landed at. I hope to be able to keep the map as updated as possible. I took this picture while returning from my longest trip to date, a trip to NC25 (Goldhill Airpark) on New Years day. It was just over 200nm direct, but we flew around the Charlotte class B so it ended up being about 230nm flown. We were fighting 40-45kt headwinds all the way back. This flight was made with wheelpants but no gear leg fairings. I was wishing I had the gear leg fairings on for this one. Every knot would have helped. :-) We were also getting bumped around pretty hard.
