Bench Tested GX50
It's cold as all get out today. The warmest I could get the garage was the low 60's so I couldn't really make any progress on the canopy. Tomorrow is supposed to be 50 degrees outside so hopefully I can get out early and plug the heater in and get the garage warmed up. Anyway, I decided to bench test the GX50 GPS today. If you read earlier, I got this unit from a friend and fellow EAA member who pulled it from his *nice* bonanza. Anyway, this is the first time I powered it up and it worked like a champ. Unfortunately I don't have the proper hardware to connect the GPS antenna, but everything else on the unit seems to work.
After finding the installation manual for this unit I found where shorting two pins on the back of the unit disables the simulation mode. Sure enough, I looked at the back (I have the wiring harness from the previous airplane) and the two pins were shorted by a length of wire. I cut through the wire to enable simulation mode and sure enough it worked just as advertised. Wow. I'm REALLY going to enjoy the electrical wiring stuff. This is just up my alley.
