Started Subpanel Assembly
Ok, so almost no visual progress today. We did the whole Sundasy church routine this morning then when we got home I tore my storage shelves apart looking for the missing spacer for the rear channel. I can't find it anywhere. I don't know if it exists. Anyway, I'm going to call Van's tomorrow. Looks like I missed it in the changeover to the new kits. I checked my inventory sheet and it's no on there, but my plans are the newer versions. Anyway, whatever. I'm not sure what's up. Since I can't mess with the roll bar any more until I find out what's up with the spacer I went out and started playing around with the forward cabin stuff. I put in the sub panel and instrument panel. There's plenty of stuff back there to be done.
For the uninitiated, the blue thing there will get cut up and all sorts of fun, electronic and mechanical gizmos will be installed there. Looks like I'm probably going to follow the lead of MANY other tip-up builders and slightly modify the rib that happens to fall directly in the center of vision of the pilot. I'll probably offset it or something, or maybe make two, one on each side of the centerline. If I end up whimping out and going with the VFR pre-punched panel (not likely), I'll obviously leave the rib as-is. From a standpoint of simplicity and quickness of assembly, the pre-punched panel is very tempting. I do think I would enjoy the benifits of an electronic engine monitor, however.
