Made Forward Tunnel Cover; Started Seat Backs
Today's work session started by me working on the center channel cover. The cover goes between the seats forward of the flap assembly and provides a channel for the elevator pushrod to go through. That'll make sense in later pictures. The first thing to make for the tunnel cover are these z-brackets. They look pretty simple but there are lots of little cuts there.
First step is to cut the stock to length, draw the cuts/bolt locations...
...then cut it out on a band saw...
Then repeat by creating a mirror image for the right side.
Then I screwed the angles into the fuselage, clamped the top skin piece of the tunnel cover to the z-brackets, match-drilled it and took it apart, cleaned it, primed the mating surfaces and riveted it together. This thing will eventually get painted w/ the interior components.
Then I studied the seat back drawings for a little while. Here are two seat backs as they come from Van's. Nothing is pre-punched in this component...for whatever reason.
Then I started cutting the stock for the seat backs. I'll probably finish this up tomorrow or Tuesday.
