Received Pitot Mount; Modified Pitot for Mount
Today I received my Gretz Aero pitot mount that I'm going to use to mount my surplused Cessna pitot. I think it's kind of cool to be using the Cessna pitot, since it's a) infinately cheaper and b) came of the same kind of plane (C-172M) that I made my first solo in. Oh well...
Here you can see that I got the paintable mount. I don't dig the chrome stuff (and it doesn't make sense since I'm using a painted pitot). I'm going to prime the mount now but I'll end up removing the primer whenever I decide to paint the plane...since this thing will get painted the same color as the bottom of the wing...whatever and whenever that will be. One day at a time...
And here's a top view so that you can sort of see the shape of the pitot. The wide part of the oval is the forward side.
And here's the pitot. You can see that there is a 'stair step' beneath the tapped screw holes. The problem is that this step is too close to the holes to fit in the mount...so you have to extend the step down a bit.
And here's the pitot after about an hour of filing, etc.
And now, you see the pitot in the mount. Fits perfectly. The picture above looks like the pitot sticks out from the front of the mount...but that's just the shadow on the the dark, untreated mount.
Today was yet another busy day at work (12 hours) and then our usual other Wednesday night stuff. I'm hoping to take Friday off so that I can work a full day on the project. We'll see though if that actually happens.
